Apple iMac G3

My 1999 iMac G3 (Revision D) in Blueberry with a 333MHz G3 processor.

I'm the proud owner of a 1999 Blueberry iMac G3. This was a Revision D tray-loading model—iMac G3s are usually called tray loading or slot loading as the significant generation changes can be most easily identified by the optical drive type—with a speedy 333MHz PowerPC G3 processor.

Just take a listen to this glorious startup sound:

The iconic startup sound of the iMac G3. Wait for the CRT degauss sound and loud hard drive. This revision had a fan unlike later slot-loading models, which also had overheating issues.

It was my Christmas gift from my wife last year; a completely unused, new in box iMac G3 from 1999. Based on the shipping label, I think it was purchased by a school that never used it for some reason. It arrived with original plastic wrap still intact. I, however, don't plan to keep it as a trophy stored in the original box for years to come. I want to use it, upgrade it, and look at it in my office every day.

I plan to write in detail about this iMac G3 in a future blog post. In the meantime I've upgraded a few things, such as the PRAM battery, the RAM, upgrading the hard drive, as well as minor tweaks like applying new thermal paste to the processor.
