After a few years with my Amplifi Alien mesh system, I went back to Eero. I had no issues with the Alien setup, but longed for a better mobile app to manage my network and devices. When it came time to move I temporarily needed Wi-Fi at both places, so I opted for Eero for the new place.
I currently have 2 Eero Pro 6E routers and one Eero 6+, though I probably didn't even need the 6+. To get the best speeds across the house at my desk, I have my laptop wired to the router. That's one great thing about Eero APs, even if one is entirely wireless to the primary router, you can plug in your laptop via Ethernet so you can eliminate one more Wi-Fi hop.
I don't have any Wi-Fi 7 devices yet so I didn't feel the need to opt for the pricey Wi-Fi 7 Eero Max 7 ($599 each!). While that would have helped with wireless backhaul between Max 7 units, I'm not sure it's worth it for me right now. But it's easy enough to swap out the 6E's later on.
As for the Amplifi Alien, I might still actually use it as a fallback Wi-Fi network. I have two ISP connections and Eero has a paid feature called Internet Backup that lets you assign a fallback network.
