WordPress 2.0.5 Released
WordPress version 2.0.5 codename ‘Ronan’ has just hit the servers. This version is a highly recommended upgrade for WordPress 2.0 users as it includes numerous security fixes, bug fixes and a performance increase. Download it now. Akismet is also updated in this release. Don’t forget to backup your server files and database before proceeding with the installation. Appropriately, today is Maxell’s inaugural “Fall Back-Up Day“.

i wish it was as easy as upgrading firefox
where you just hit update and its done
Paul, looks like you’ve been mentioned on LifeHacker again, http://www.lifehacker.com/software/flickr/how-to-embed-flickr-slideshows-210683.php
Yup, I noticed earlier when they sent a trackback.
I bet there will be an update to 2.0.5 again within a week
Well, this is the first time I’ve ever had a problem with updating Wordpress. It’s strange. I get some error with my ‘wp-settings.php’ file. Anyone else have any problems?
Nope, my upgrade went fine. What does the error say?
Scottfrye, I haven’t heard anything about an error yet. All upgrades went fine for the WP-Hackers and WP-Testers. However it’s possible you have an older plugin that required edits to the php files. Though even then that’s a strange place to get an error. Did you go to the wp-admin page and follow the upgrade link when prompted?
Paul - Thanks for spreading the word about the update. With the number of people still running older releases, and the major security holes that continue to be closed in each 2.0.x release, it is very important to get everyone off of the older versions. The two biggest reasons to upgrade to 2.0.5, as I see it, are:
1. This is, again, major security release. There was a major hole plugged;
2. If you started your blog with version 2.0 or newer, you’re missing a DB index on the post table and that will slow down your site.
I’ve provided more detail in a top 5 list on my site: http://www.thecodecave.com/article269
A list of all 60 tickets addressed in order of priority here:

Please continue to work to convince your friends and everyone on your blog rolls to upgrade, it is important. If any of them are worried about upgrading, I’ve included a 35 second upgrade script on my site. It’s been reviewed by the members of the WP-Hackers list. So, it is safe. I’d post the link here, but I’m releasing an updated version of it later today and don’t want the old links floating around. Just look at the Code Cave article link I posted above and follow it from there.
Oh and “Why is this release called Ronan?” you ask… Well, ok you didn’t, but still, it’s named after the very first WordPress Baby! Ryan Boren (WP Big Wig) is Ronan’s proud father. Pictures are available here:
