Day 6Kyoto
Regina and I checked out of our hotel and headed to Shibuya station to get our Japan Rail passes validated. We took the JR Yamanote line to Tokyo station to catch a Shinkansen to Kyoto.

The train ride took just under 3 hours. We then took a short taxi ride to our hotel, the Kyoto Royal Park Hotel, to drop off luggage and then explored the Gion district of Kyoto.

Gion is very walkable and filled with people in the evenings. Many old Japanese houses that have been converted into teahouses and restaurants line the streets.

We closed the night with a visit to Donguri, an okonomiyaki restaurant (japanese savory pancake).
