Obsidian is my primary note-taking app. It's so much more than just a note-taking app though. It's a personal knowledge management system that allows me to keep track of my thoughts, tasks, blog posts, ideas, projects, and more. I take a lot of notes about everything and Obsidian is great at helping me organize and easily access them.
I've used lots of note-taking apps over the years. Previously I used Notion, Craft Docs, and Ulysses. Theere were a few reason I switched to Obsidian and have been continuing to use it:
- Flat files - I love using flat files ([https://stephango.com/file-over-app](File over app)) that I can easily manage, backup, move, and manipulate as I please.
- Highly customizable and extensible - There's a huge community of people making themes and plugins for Obsidian, making it easy to jump in and make Obsidian work just how I need it to work.
- Great sync options - With flat files you can use any service you want to backup and sync your notes, even iCloud. However, I pay for the encrypted Obsidian Sync service.
