To keep up with new Google properties like gCalendar, Google has ditched the popular Gmail Notifier for a revamped application aptly dubbed Google Notifier. The new Mac application adds a calendar icon to your menubar (you can hide it in preferences) and a Mail.appetizer-esque notification system. When you get a new email or calendar reminder a transparent window pops above your top right screen as a friendly notification.

Other additions include two new sounds, Google Beep 1 and 2, yet the notifier application can still only handle one Google account at a time; no fancy switching or simultaneously using multiple accounts, yet.

Well the Notifier for the PC already had these types of notification with the whole pop up thing, so in a sense they’re just playing catch-up. I’m not sure if the PC version got updated too, but I’d assume so.

The PC version has not been updated or changed. The Google Notifier (Mac) page is says last updated August 18, 2006 while the Gmail Notifier (Windows) page last updated March 21, 2006 so I assume they are just playing catch-up like Paul says.

What’s the application with the icon to the left of Google Notifier?

Never mind!

No it did not: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/notifier/notifier_windows.html
The PC notifier does not include Calendar notifications, however Google Desktop supports Google Calendar. So, for the moment Mac users are 1UPing the Windows Notifier.

I’ve always used the notifier’s growl plugin to get that sort of pop-up. I wonder if the new notifier uses growl or if they rolled their own pop-up notifier thingy.

Great update on Googles part to that software. Though, I personally put my gmail notifier sound back to Blow. It’s ingrained into my mind. :)

There’s a new version of Gmail+Growl out that supports Google Notifier, available here.
Does anyone else have problems with the Calendar notifier? It keeps asking for my password endlessly when I turn it on.

The notifier is great. Seeing the new release actually convinced me to give Gmail another try over the hosted email solution I transferred to. Can’t say I am a fan of the icon(s). I had to swap those out ASAP.

Is anyone else getting the sign in page over and over again without actually saying that the details entered are wrong?
I am using it on a PPC G4 (Laptop). Any ideas?

Sadly it is only for Mac OS 10.4 & higher unlike the last version, and according to http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27344 it is buggy as heck. :-(

i want to have the latest version of gmail program
Yep Constantinos,
I am getting the sign-in dialog box more frequently than I’d like. I’d prefer to have this automated, so that I wouldn’t have to waste my time clicking the sign-in button.
Anyone have a solution for this?
