Google Calendar Screenshots

March 8, 2006

Fellow tech blogger Michael Arrington has scored some exclusive screenshots of Google’s upcoming AJAX-powered Calendar web application. Dubbed CL2, Google Calendar is a fairly long way from a public launch and is currently under a very strict private beta. As expected, Google services such as Gmail will be able to integrate with CL2 and might even feature SMS notifications, that is sending a text message to your mobile phone as a reminder. We’ll have to wait and see what comes of it, but 30 Boxes might have some stiff competition on hand.

I agree, Paul. I’ve been using 30Boxes every day since it came out — it simply amazed me, but the thought of that ease of use with integration in my email really gets me thinking. The fact that gMail “reads” my messages (for the ads) is actually going to really come in handy if it can read upcoming events, place them in my calendar, and so on.

I hated reading that it’s a ways off from a release, but anyway, such is life . . . patience!

I don’t know what’s up with this link. Om Malik posted the same link on his blog, but it doesn’t work. It always resolves to a Wordpress error page.

It was working earlier, basically that error means that Mike’s server is getting pounded too hard (mysql database server went down) … I noticed he was on digg, newsvine and tech.memeorandum.. more places likely as well.

@oneighturbo: Thanks for that link to calendarhub. That is exactly the service that I was looking for. I had been using Yahoo, but there’s no way to change the default view for publicly shared calendars. 30Boxes seems to have some of the functionality that I need, but it’s missing some flair. Calendarhub seems to be just the ticket that I needed!

anticipating the public release of cl2, i can’t wait to get some calendar email / integration. i use my gmail account to balance multiple accounts. having the ability to receive updates of events while checking my email would be great.

Gmail intergration sounds great! I suppose to keep their popularity up, gmail would have to make their SMS notifications free.
That would certainly make Gmail the best email account to have, by far. Glad I have one.
