Most people haven’t even received their MacBook Pro orders when Apple updated the high-end MacBook Pro specification. Now, two base models sport a 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo processors, respectively. However, there is a BTO option for an impressive 2.16GHz Core Duo chip for an additional $300 on the high-end model. It seems as though the upgrades will be free for those who have already ordered them after the keynote, e.g. 1.67 » 1.83 and 1.83 » 2.0. MacNN has the full story on this one.
The $2,500 model now includes a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.83GHz, and will begin shipping this week. The $2,000 model now includes a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.67GHz, and will begin shipping next week. In addition, customers may now upgrade to a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor as a build-to-order option.

Any idea when the Mac Mini’s are being updated to Intel?
After 15 years of anti Apple- I’ve finally had enough of Windows… Vive La Revolution!
From the speculation I’ve heard, the next major release for Apple will be on April 1st (their 30th anniversary). The general consensus is that that Intel Mac Minis and iBooks (MacBook?) will be released then.
Though Apple is far from the only guilty party here, I can’t say I’m impressed with this:
2GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro, via Apple US Store: US$2499
As above, via Apple AU Store: A$3999, US$2968
That’s a joke. How on earth can they justify an extra US$469 for the same piece of equipment?
I’m still dying for a Mac. Must… save… money…
BTW, I love the serifed headers. Rock on, Paul.
I was tempted by the MacPro, but when I went in to get a new laptop a few weeks ago I opted for the tried, true, and tested G4 (12-inch). The Intel machines are a great addition to the Apple lineup, but I don’t want to experience the first-generation model blues. I’ll wait for a later version.
