To be honest, this doesn't interest me at all. Want to know why? Because I can tell by looking at these specs that this notebook, upon release, would be far more expensive than any of the affordable laptop lines offered by Dell (which I consider to be the best company for PCs). Any manufacturer could produce a laptop like this, the ideas are not that revolutionary. But unlike the Motorola RAZR, you don't get laptops for free with your cellular contract. You have to pay for these things and unless this laptop is very affordable, it honestly won't change the people look at any kind of computer.

Moreover, what's popular in the PC world right now is rugged laptops; Panasonic has their Toughbooks and Dell just came out with RoadReady laptops. You can't make a rugged PC that's this thin; you either have one or the other. If you ask me, I'll take the rugged option any day.

Flash memory? Wouldn't that be super expensive? Love the concept though, this would be perfect for university.

charlie: wear leveling is, as you said, a "partial solution," but it doesn't solve the problem. Flash memory can handle a few million read-write cycles, sure. But as I said, a power user could pass the million cycle mark in a few months. Imagine a server writing log files, an OS swapping memory onto disk, your browser caching files, etc. All of these writes add up, and are often performed in rapid succession. Plus, as a disk fills, the space on disk to perform "wear leveling" decreases.

Honestly I don't see this as some "great idea," but just a continuing evolution towards thinner designs, a la iPod. And I think Apple and Sony are the most likely companies to actually make something this thin and sleek.

Mike: Well if you continued reading that section in the Wiki article, you'll see that there is a partial solution to the read/write problem - many SSD makers are already touting 'wear leveling' so unless you've going to use the same hard drive for tens of years, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Paul: While this laptop looks absolutely phenomenal (I'm not a big fan of the leather-esque covering though...) I doubt it would do much to revive PC sales. Sure this specific model would be quite the eye-catcher, but it will be expensive and aimed at a very niche market. Consumers will say, wow that looks great, oh, but it's $3K. They won't buy it. What they'd be able to buy would still be the HPs and Dells of today and unless they start looking like this, at a reasonable cost, it won't matter.

Wow! It makes my Macbook here feel like a bit of a brick. (sorry macbook, I don't mean it, honest) 14 Hours, Really? That's something you can only dream of. That black backlit keyboard looks so sexy, why can't manufacturers produce these simple yet very attractive looking things now?

Despite the awesome form factor - it would still be running PC-type programs. I think I've been spoiled by Apple's eye candy for a bit too long now, but I think there are so many usability perks to a Mac that would keep me a loyal user. I'm sure something like that would go for a pretty penny too. Here to hoping Apple either beats them to the punch, or that they can dual boot with OSX. :)

0.7-inch thin magnesium case, Screen brightness automatically adjusts with light sensors, Built-in video camera, Backlit keyboard... sounds like a MBP. Now if it came with an operating system that didn't suck, I might consider buying one.

But, "flash memory used in place of the traditional hard drive" is a bit of a concern. I'm sure that's how they got the width down to 0.7", except that flash memory is not really suitable as a hard drive. In particular, it only lasts a certain limited number of read-write cycles. A power user could wear out flash memory fairly quickly (especially if the OS is doing a lot of swapping... I'm looking at you Microsoft Vista).
