WordPress Theme K2 v0.9 Released

August 10, 2006 · 6 comments

Michael Heilemann and the K2 team have released a long-awaited update to K2, the theme used by thousands of bloggers. Version 0.9 eliminates most if not all of the bugs present in past versions of K2 and will replace release 167 as the latest stable release. Nice work guys! Download v0.9. You can follow along with the K2 development on their fairly new Google Code account.

yeah, it certainly does seem like r167 has been around for the longest time. It’s great to see that this project is still under active development. There’s nothing like a fresh new release (if only they smelled like new Apple products….).

So K2 Beta Two r167 is replaced by K2 0.9—or would that be K2 Beta Two 0.9? I’ve looked for an explanation of the naming scheme/ version history, but haven’t found one. Anyone know the difference between a beta version and a revision, or why 0.9 is a “bigger” number than 167?

r167 was the release number from when Michael and crew used their own subversion setup and was codenamed (i think you can say that, beta two). Version 1.0 will be the final, first release stable (think firefox 1.0 launch) and 0.9 is this current version, which I suppose you can call beta three if you want. They don’t call it by the rXXX because they switched to Google Code and all the rXXX numbers are off from the originals.

Yup. The old subversion, from which r167 came from, went all the way up to r407 (the r is short for revision). When we moved to Google Code, we had to start over with revision 1. I think the 0.9 build was based on r113, so it’s actually r520 (113 + 407 = 520) if you want to look at it that way. 520 > 167 ;)
