It’s tax deductible. Example. You go to a charity dinner. You pay $250. The dinner is worth $25. You can deduct $225 as a charitable contribution.

Hey Paul — to be honest, I think Julia will be at least slightly disappointed by such completely intellectual and utilitarian reasoning. What about saying something about her personality and charm, even her looks? I think she would appreciate it that.

You don’t have to publish this comment. I’m not friends with Julia but I met her once in Boston and she is a very sweet and nice girl. I think she deserves a compliment not just on her resume but also on herself.
