They have changed their name to Joost and have a new website at http://www.joost.com.

I tested some other P2P TV applications during the World Cup last year. As with any new type of applications, some of them work well and others are terrible. I hope this one works but I am concerned about bandwidth.

[...] Paul breaks the project introduction down while Adam gives the inside scoop with beta access. Think of the service as an on-demand video delivery medium for delivering quality content from broadcasters like CNN or FOX. Excited? It might be time to check and consider upping your internet connection. “In one hour of viewing, approximately 320Mb data will be downloaded and 105Mb uploaded, which means that it will exhaust a 1Gb cap in 10 hours.” So if you have an upper limit on your monthly internet usage, or you pay for internet usage as you go (i.e. you pay per megabyte you download, instead of a flat fee), you could run into problems.
[...] Like OS X, the user interface looks like it was designed with the end user in mind, and it is pretty quick to pick up. As Paul Stamatiou said, the various buttons on the main controller have a similar feel as Apple’s Front Row application. All the menus slide on-screen or fade into place, which is rather pleasing to the eye, although both my laptop and my tower PC were grumbling somewhat. Currently there is only a release for Windows XP, although the Venice Project official blog states that they are “working hard on a native Macintosh Intel version and expect it to be available in the next few months”. Linux users will get a version too. [...]

@ Paul - You don't have an invite Paul... wow! I have actually beaten you at something for once. Currently their servers are playing up and delivering corrupt downloads, but as soon as its working again, I will have to tell you what its like from the horses mouth.

Hey Paul,

This looks really interesting. The pics that you have up tell me that they put a lot of time and effort into crafting a high-quality User Interface. Nothing on the order of Front Row yet, but it definitely looks nice.

Please keep me abreast of future developments.

That looks amazing! Now I can't imagine what this is going to do to the serious backbone hubs around the globe as users start to seriously increase their bandwidth uses. Perhaps I should ask if the ISPs need to overclock their switches and routers? I am also confident that Comcast and our neighbors hate us/me.
