Turning 23

June 30, 2009 · 30 comments

Not much to say today other than I’m now 23 years of age! Posting around here has been a little slow and will continue to be for a while. I caught some virus and have had fever for the last week and according to the ER doctor at the hospital, it’ll be another week or two 4-6 weeks before I get my energy back. In the meantime, I’ll be playing Flight Control in bed with my shiny new iPhone 3GS. [click to continue…]

Things will be a bit slow around here until I find my bearings again. I just moved to another apartment this past weekend. There were a few reasons for moving, from wanting to find cheaper rent with upcoming expenses (which is also why you’ll see me experimenting with different ads on this blog) like paying for my own health insurance and starting to pay student loans, as well as wanting to live in a pet-friendly place so I can adopt a big dog/running companion (currently looking at labrador mixes). It has been almost 2 years since the last time I had a significant redesign of this blog. I figured it was time to start tinkering again. Instead of relying on the same blog theme and code base I have been working with for over 3 years now, I decided to use Chris Pearson’s Thesis WordPress theme as my base. For one, Chris Pearson is also a fellow Georgia Tech alumnus. Second, the Thesis theme [click to continue…]

Launching PSTAM Forums

September 9, 2008 · 13 comments

I had forums on this site a very long time ago but nothing ever really happened with them. After the prodding of Andrew McCuller (a Mac Genius at an Apple Store, among other things), I’ve decided to give forums another whirl. I went with bbPress for its tight integration with WordPress and lightweight footprint. I still have a lot of editing to do but it’s up and running. [click to continue…]

I’m Feeling Lucky

September 8, 2008 · 29 comments

This past weekend I discovered that this blog is the #1 search result on Google (U.S. Google.com) for Paul. I will probably jinx my ranking by talking about it but at least I’ve gotten my 15 minutes. I think my next goal is getting my own Wikipedia page. Thanks for reading and supporting PaulStamatiou.com [click to continue…]

Today I turn 22 years old. In the last year I have done a lot of things I’m happy about but I won’t dwell on them here. I’m looking to the future and especially this upcoming year. I only have 5 classes left at Georgia Tech until I receive my degree and I have already completed the harder Computer Science [click to continue…]

On Getting Robbed

May 28, 2008 · 46 comments

Those of you following my Twitter account will know that my house was robbed early in the morning on Memorial day. Nothing of mine was actually taken but the three guys that broke in assaulted my roommate and stole his MacBook among other things. Read his blog post for the full story. [click to continue…]

Vacation Notice

May 1, 2008 · 13 comments

I just wrapped up my final exams for this semester on Wednesday and will soon be boarding a flight to San Francisco for a week of vacation filled with visiting friends and exploring California again among other things. I will probably have some downtime to write here but if not I thought I would put this up. [click to continue…]

Over 300 people have suggested via Skribit that I chime in on what’s involved with maintaining, writing and developing for this blog. 2008 PSTAM Reader Roll Call

December 31, 2007

Depending on where you reside, 2008 will be arriving shortly or is just a countdown away. This blog more than doubled in subscribers in 2007 so I want to take this time and do another “roll call” type post. The spotlight will turn to you and I ask you to post a

I’m a Blogging Scholarship Finalist

October 8, 2007

I hate to solicit things on this blog but I’ve been selected as a top 20 finalist for the $10k blogging scholarship I wrote about a while ago. If you’ve got the time to spare, I’d really appreciate your vote. Compared to last year where there were only 10 finalists, there seems to be considerably [...]

The Next Level

September 26, 2007

Over the last two weeks I have been spending a lot of time thinking about the future of PaulStamatiou.com. It has been around for over 2 years, served up over 4 million pages (1 million of those in the last 4 months), amassed over 15,000 comments over 850+ posts and grown a dedicated readership. PaulStamatiou.com [...]

On The Bleeding Edge

August 9, 2007

I have recently been keeping revisions of my shoddy coding practices with Subversion, which I ignored until I picked up a “Practical Subversion” book a few weeks ago. Naturally, I figured it only logical to expand this to my own WordPress installation, making WordPress updates as simple as a single SVN command. That’s all kittens [...]

College Students: $5k Web Design Scholarship

August 7, 2007

Daniel Kovach, the guy responsible for The Daniel Kovach Scholarship Foundation from which I received a $1k blogging scholarship last year, is running a web design scholarship contest. If you’re a college student and can design a WordPress template by August 13th 18th (extended), you could have $5,000 taken off your tuition.

Top 100

July 14, 2007

Just an FYI to everyone that reads, subscribes and checks this site incessantly, I recently entered the ranks of the Top 100 blogs as tracked by Technorati, out of 70M+ blogs. Technorati takes into account unique links within the past 6 months, or at least that’s how they used to do it.
