Site Redesign

September 15, 2005 · 5 comments

I have been playing around with a feature in K2 which allows for me to create multiple CSS files for me to change the appearance of the blog and choose between styles. I have been hoping to modify it a bit and allow for users to view this blog to a style to their choosing, including different colors and header images.

PaulStamatiou.com runs on the Thesis Theme for WordPress

How smart is your Theme? How good is your support? Check out ThesisTheme for WordPress.

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like PaulStamatiou.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

I used the Scribe WordPress plugin and service to optimize this blog post for SEO.

Hi Paul, I really like the new look. Just wodnering if you will release a version of deviance without the sidebar??

I’m starting to get the hang of editing existing style sheets, but I’m still playing around with wordpress on my localhost, and I would like to try just the single column, any hints??

I wasn’t planning on releasing the sidebarless deviance… not too many people have expressed interest in it. But I can help you out with getting a single column running. Essentially you need to go to “secondary” in your stylesheet and add “display: none;” and then increase the width of your primary. If you make a post on the K2 forums, I or someone else will be able to elaborate a bit more on this.

Hi Paul. thanks for that, I have now managed to get my site to have only one column, however it had messed up all the pages. If I turn on the archives in K2 it doesn’t go to the page, springs up a 404 error.

When I first started cusomtising I was using your deviance style sheet and editing that, but I have just started a new one for the single column using the style.css already in K2 as a base. Any idea why it may have done this??

Go into every file in K2 and if there is a php call to get the sidebar, delete or comment it out. I had that same problem where it would mess up things like my search page.
