I really love knoppix, and this is a quite interesting article, thank you for sharing it. There is also another great software called Winternals Administrators Pak, which can be all-in-one and effective solution when Windows crashes.
By the way, have you mentioned that the ways to recover/fix Windows is much more in quantity than the ways to make Windows work proper? Looks like it always find a way to crash somehow :)
Funny, I did this recently with a friend, gave him the knoppix CD and was able to backup everything he wanted/needed, and he never used knoppix before.
