Only just got round to reading this one. Really informative, although the reasons for 'what really drives innovation in technology', missed off the two biggies: military and adult entertainment! Strange but true.

Paul, I recently read an article in my local newspaper (remember those) that talked about how cell phones have helped even the smallest vendors in places like India. They gave an example of a farmer who sold a few boxes of mangos. Instead of walking around all day trying to get the best price for his crop he simply called a few folks. The phone costs in India are pretty low and he was able to almost double his daily take.

I'd say the spread of cell phones in the third world is one of the biggest changes.

I think the really surprising thing for me is the 'intensity' with which the stuff gets adopted. I am intrigued to see how long they all last for as well though :-)
