One Down, One To Go

Finals began this week and my first was Calculus 3 at 8am. I had been studying nonstop since Saturday and woke up at 4am this morning to get some more studying in. However the final was brutal; it was more intense than anything I have ever experienced. The professor said the practice final was supposed to be very similar to 80% of the actual final… lies. Lots of problems came out of no where, we were asked to parametrize shapes I’ve never heard of with boundaries more complicated than the actual surface. I feel cheated. I have done moderately well on previous exams in Calc 3 compared to the rest of the class and need a 45/100 to pass with a C (or 60ish/100 for a B). If there is not a decent curve, even the 45 seems difficult to attain. However, after speaking with fellow classmates afterwards it sounds like I was not the only one that found the exam difficult, so hopefully there will be a nice curve. Tomorrow brings a Physics final my way but a good, long nap lies between studying for that. ;-)

… sorry for the rare, non-tech related post but I had to get that off my chest.

I have been considering making a tech holiday gift guide, so if you have any suggestions let me know and it might end up on the list.

Here’s hoping to a good curve!

When I took calc 1 (I still have yet to take calc 2 and 3) I posted one of my problems/solutions one day. Nobody read it, but the process of writing it down helped a little. Of course, calc 1 is pretty basic, as far as calculus goes.

Also, I learned that it is a pain in the butt to attempt to write calculus equations with html. ;)

Good luck with your finals.

I have nothing but respect. I’ve been slowly working towards a college degree for about 8 years. I’m now a 3 time college dropout – but it hasn’t slowed me down, so eff it anyway.

I understand how you feel with the Calc final. I took Calc 1 & 2 and both finals were much harder than the practice final that they were supposed to be like. Hope you get a good curve. Good luck with the rest of your finals.

I took my calc 2 final the other day. Figure I got about an 75/100 and needed a 95 for an “A ” without a curve. Just checked my grade and I got an A so the curve must’ve been really nice.

Good part is that it was only my first semester of college and I’m already done with my Math requirement becuase I took AP Calculus in High School. :D

Hehe, nice Thame. I’m lucky my major doesn’t require Differential Equations… now that class is a completely different beast, O_O.

Oh, calculus. Engineering degrees are tough, but so worth it.
I think the hardest exam I ever had was in Dynamics 2. Doing math without numbers just sucks.
The worst part is in 2 years you won’t remember any of it. ;)

Man, I almost failed calc in first year. On the flip side, Algebra was my best course. The prof in my final year algorithms course told us not to worry, said the world is discrete anyway :)

Isn’t it intresting nobody congratulated u on passing your courses?

But I Will:

Congrats!!!

There are times where u r overcritical, and hence, think you have failed, but passed. Everybody goes through these stages.
