New Feature: Quick Social Bookmarking

January 1, 2006 · 15 comments

You may have noticed a bit of text and some icons following each post (on their full page, not on the frontpage). I’ve implemented an easy way for readers to bookmark any of my articles via del.icio.us and digg. I picked up the idea from Mr. Veloso, who has executed the same thing quite well on his site. For either of these social bookmarking links to work, you will need valid accounts with digg and del.icio.us. So the next time you come across an article that you think you need to share with everyone else, just click one of them. With the digg link, you will be asked by digg to provide a title and brief description. If you happen to post a link on digg, post a link to the digg page here as a comment so others don’t repost on digg.

PaulStamatiou.com runs on the Thesis Theme for WordPress

How smart is your Theme? How good is your support? Check out ThesisTheme for WordPress.

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like PaulStamatiou.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

I used the Scribe WordPress plugin and service to optimize this blog post for SEO.

Can you add BlinkList (www.blinklist.com) as well? They offer the same capability. Mike

Mike, I wanted to add them as well but I’m not familiar with the syntax for submitting URLs. For example, with del.icio.us, I just link to http://del.icio.us/post?url=permalink. I’ll try to find out how to do it for blinklist, unless you already know that would help.

Paul: Must get these onto my blog. Have you seen the new features in Feedburner that can put these links in your feed? Very useful. By the way, what Technorati tags plugin are you using – I’ve been meaning to install one for a while now and I just noticed the links at the top of your post. How useful do you find them for traffic generation?

@Gerard: Yes, I know the great potential FeedBurner has but I need to have a clean RSS feed for 9rules for reasons I can’t yet disclose. I use Ultimate Tag Warrior for WordPress and I find that a decent amount of traffic comes from people searching technorati. I would definitely recommend it.

@Ka-Meng: Thanks! I’ll add that in real fast.

Cheers Paul. Must give it a try on one of my blogs. Looking forward to this big 9rules announcement/release, BTW!
