Mactel Users: Get the Azureus UB

April 22, 2006 · 8 comments

If you have recently switched to an Intel Mac, you may have noticed that your favorite BitTorrent client, Azureus, does not work. Luckily, the Azureus wiki has a special build of the current version, 2.4.0.2, modified to work as a Universal Binary. Until there is an official UB for Azureus, this seems to work great. Download it directly. Hat tip to Felipe for the link.

Update: The download link no longer works. You might be able to find a UB version at GetAzureus.com soon, otherwise keep trying that link.

Update 2: Working download link thanks to Andrei’s comment.

Actually, my favorite BitTorrent client is uTorrent. Unfortunately it is Windows only. Although Transmission is supposed to be the so-called “OSX equivalent” to uTorrent, I find it lacks.

But, for general purpose downloading it seems to outperform Azureus in the memory consumption area.

I really enjoy azureus, I have had very little problems with it, though I’ve heard uTorrent is better, but I don’t think I’ll switch. Why fix something that isn’t broken?

Hot Comments? Hrm. Anyway, Azureus is good if you’re hosting or care about the plugins. Otherwise, the lightweight stuff (like Transmission) is prolly more practical.

My favorite BT client for my MacBook is called Transmission. It’s simple, small and has all of the features that I need. You can check it out/download it here: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/19378

The current working link is http://azureuswiki.com/files/Azureus_2.4.0.2_Universal_OSX.dmg. You might want to change the original link in your post.

Hi,

I installed Azureus 2.5.0.4

During configuration, I tested the NAT / Server Port and received the following error:

Testing port 10561 …
NAT Error – Connection to 24.7.189.13:10561 refused.

I’ve disabled all firewall software such as Intego Netbarrier and Little Snitch. I’ve also opened up this port within the Sharing preferences/firewall section. To no avail?

Anyone have specific instructions on how to get Azureus working?

David
