Launching PSTAM Forums

September 9, 2008 · 13 comments

I had forums on this site a very long time ago but nothing ever really happened with them. After the prodding of Andrew McCuller (a Mac Genius at an Apple Store, among other things), I’ve decided to give forums another whirl. I went with bbPress for its tight integration with WordPress and lightweight footprint. I still have a lot of editing to do but it’s up and running.

As for my intentions with the forums, I don’t want them to interfere with the insightful comments and discussions that happen within my blog posts, but rather have it be its own community for discussing anything and everything tech, and then some. You’ll be able to find out about posts in-the-works, such as an upcoming audiophile-worthy speaker upgrade, as well as give and receive tech support (and hopefully take it out of my inbox). If you’re interested, you can quickly register here. Registering also means that you will be able to use that same account to comment here, so you don’t have to keep typing in your name, email and url when you comment.

Sidenote: I didn’t plan on posting about the Apple news today, but iTunes 8 and the Genius playlist maker is pretty spiffy. :-)

Update: Yeah that didn’t last long. I took them down for a number of reasons, ranging from low activity to being a spammer’s haven.

PaulStamatiou.com runs on the Thesis Theme for WordPress

How smart is your Theme? How good is your support? Check out ThesisTheme for WordPress.

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like PaulStamatiou.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

SEO Copywriting Made Simple
I used the Scribe WordPress plugin and service to optimize this blog post for SEO.

The forums look good. I will swing by and see if I can’t help strike up some tech conversations from time to time.

As for iTunes Genius, I am not very please with it, it doesn’t work! See my post: http://atlchris.com/270/thoughts-on-itunes-genius/

Any chance of allowing openID logins to the forums? (or at least associating one’s account with an OpenID?)

Hey paul, nice idea… but why you don’t remain an authentic blogger? There’re too many forums in the web ;/

I just got here and now you’re starting a forum. Looks good — but I have to stay away from those things. I’m a recovering addict. (Okay, I shouldn’t even be posting here — but this is beer and that’s Everclear.)
