I’m a Blogging Scholarship Finalist

October 8, 2007 · 43 comments

I hate to solicit things on this blog but I’ve been selected as a top 20 finalist for the $10k blogging scholarship I wrote about a while ago. If you’ve got the time to spare, I’d really appreciate your vote. Compared to last year where there were only 10 finalists, there seems to be considerably more competition this year. As I’ve mentioned in the past, out-of-state Georgia Tech tuition isn’t cheap, especially when I’m going to be here for an extra semester or two from changing majors.

Also, for those wondering I did have about 4.5 hours of downtime earlier today as Apache decided it would be a good time to take a nap.

Here is a strange thing… ‘Grant Brisbee’ is currently winning, (you ever heard of him? No me neither), with 32% of the votes, and yet it took me several attempts on google to even find him. Paul is number 4 or something when you search of ‘Paul’ and is I’m sorry to say, way down on the voting scale.
Best to take these competitions with a pinch of salt.

You got my vote.

Interesting to me that two of the contestants were using the Cutline Theme with minimal customization.

Good luck.

Stammy, I immediately looked up your blog when I saw your name in the list. Glad it’s back up now. I’m voting for you, though I’m also in the running this year. Some of the contenders have ridiculous votes though… script-kiddies? :P

I not only voted, but I one upped it by sending an email to John Gruber. Hopefully, he’ll support a fellow Apple fan and link to here. If you’re looking for major traffic you can always link to his website in an article bashing the iPhone and then wait for Fake Steve to get a hold of it.

No offense but you’re already one of the most well known bloggers on the planet – why on earth should I vote for you instead of for someone who’s in greater need for help? Out of state tuition and an extra year or two seems like a pretty wishy washy explanation of need. I think you’re awesome but this seems in really poor taste. I haven’t looked at the rest of the list but I can’t help but think there’s got to be some college bloggers on there for whom $10k would make a much bigger difference in their lives than it would for you. I don’t know that much about you, so maybe there’s more going on than you explain…but whatever.

If a friend asks for a favor do you say “Sorry, but I’m saving my favors for someone else who really needs it.”

Why give these bloggers 10,000 dollars? Why not give it to the homeless? Screw the homeless it’s their fault they don’t have homes. Give the money to victims of a fire. Wait, they probably caused the fire.

I’m getting carried away, but hopefully my obvious exaggeration will explain why your logic isn’t necessarily the best in these less trivial matters. It’s a vote for who’s your favorite not who needs it the most, because let’s be honest, if they’re already in college, they’re doing a lot better than many of people in the world.

My vote is in. Thanks for everything you do. I do think it’s inane to put the final call in on online voting.. I guess that’s true of Presidential elections too, but I’d have hoped this might make more sense.
