Hellenic OS X Localization Finally Emerges

January 29, 2007 · 7 comments

Mac users in Greece are well too aware of the fact that Apple does not have any localization for Greek OS X users. After a lot of work, several devoted Mac users have created a Hellenic OS X localization and are offering it for no charge. Creating a localization for an entire operating system is no small task by any means, so I’d like to commend those that helped with this project.

I’ve been using this for a while on my iMac. The only problem I’ve noticed is that some words are too long, sucking up a ton of screen real estate (even at 1440×900, damn our language). :P

p.s: paul, you might want to change dhmhtris to dimitris…same with xrhstos to christos. would make reading a lot easier for non-greek speakers

Actually the official reseller for Greece has a Hellenic OS X Localization. It’s considered as poor and overpriced. Combined with other complaints resulted in disatisfaction for the authorised reseller and therefore efforts like http://www.hello-macos.org/ and http://www.wewantapplegreece.com/ were born!
