Google IG Gets Themes

March 21, 2007

Google silently added themes to personalized homepages today. Not including the basic Google theme, there are 6 themes you can try out. Interestingly enough, they are dynamic and change according to “your local weather conditions.”

I like the themes, it makes the homepage appear even more personal. I chose the beach theme yesterday since I’m from sunny Florida.

This may sound dumb, but the themes almost entice me to use Google IG as my homepage. Currently my site is my homepage only because I can’t seem to find anything else worthwhile.

I’ve been using Google IG as my homepage for a long time and it will be NICE to be greeted each morning with something other than the stark white page.

By the way, it was a SILENT launch… but as a tribute to the various eye movement studies…. I did catch the “addition” despite the lack of fanfare.

By the way, I chose the “seasonal” scape as my theme BECAUSE I live in sunny Southern Florida and it’s easy to forget about the seasons I left behind when I moved down here.

That’s pretty cool. I still prefer NetVibes though.. It seems like Google is mostly playing catch up in this field.

I have yet to see this appear on my Google IG page. It’s on my friends’ pages, but not on mine. :(

Nice catch Rory. I had just checked to see if it was on TechMeme or not and assumed it was silent.. a sign of how bad things have become these days.

They are well done and much needed. Oh, and I chose the bus stop one as well!

I think this is pretty cool. I wonder if they will be adding more/allowing developers to code some.
