Facebook Adds More Features

September 5, 2006

A revamped Facebook launched today. The main site design pretty much stayed the same but when users login they will notice a few different things on their home page, such as the current events and status of their friends. Also there is a section called “Mini-Feed” on user profiles showing their recent activities such as edits on their profile, posts on others’ walls and added friends.

I gotta say I don’t like this new feature. I guess it’s cool to see what other people have done, but I don’t like people being able to see EVERY change I do, including (especially) when I post on other people’s walls. Now it’s just an annoyance.

I like this. :)

An organized timeline of who has done what.

I noticed it this morning.

I agree with Royi.. it is very creepy. I don’t want people to know everything I do, who I communicate with, etcetera. This comment coming to you live from LCC3710. =)

As if I already didn’t have difficulty quitting Facebook to get back to class work.

Don’t it just make you wonder what will come next? Implanted tracking devices so one knows EXACTLY where his friends are at a particular moment? Hyperbole sure, but still – with the immediate status updates I think we’re getting closer.

While I understand how you guys can think it’s creepy, your friends could have easily found all this information out anyway. All this does is put that information in one place so people don’t have to check your profile every 5 minutes to see that you added “Death Cab for Cutie” to your favorite music list. Personally, I think it’s kind of cool.

I don’t mind if someone notices that someone else posted on my wall, and then clicks Wall to Wall to find it out, but let’s say I posted something on someone elses wall, now the first thing people see when they come to MY profile, is who’s profile I posted on and what. I personally just don’t like it. They could have found it, but I don’t know about you, I don’t check every other friend of someone to see if THIS person left them any comments. I also don’t check to see if someone has new friends, changed something else, etc. Mini-feed would be nice if you could select WHAT goes on your mini-feed. I don’t mind if people know I added a movie or two. I don’t mind if people know I uploaded new photos, or if I changed my status. The fact that you have to individually kill a feed-story is annoying.

BTW, Paul, my post was from Skiles building as well (if that’s where your LCC class is).

The new features are awesome. I just wish they would add some privacy features to the feeds. That would be the best of both worlds.

I’m started to get weirded out here.

Where are the privacy features?

The old ones don’t cut it.

Although I think it’s a cool concept, it is a little more stalkerish to me. And yes all that info is easily accessible if you actually put an effort to finding out, but now it’s absolultely effortless to see what everyone is doing.

There is actually a petition to sign if you would like the feature removed.

12,000+ signatures in a day!

12,000 sigs in a day? That’s hogwash. This facebook group already has 140,000 members.

Expecting consumers to pay monthly fees for services they do not receive is fallacy created in affluent times by institutional demands for financing. ,
