Hi. I've been designing Blogger Blogs for a while, and I have just started working on wordpress. Is there a way to add a second sidebar to K2 in Wordpress.com hosted blogs where you can only edit the CSS?

If not, which standard theme would you recommend as an easily customizable 3 column theme?

Thank you so much for the information on mapping the footer. I was able to use it to map my header logo. There might have been an easier way, but this worked for me. Thanks, you are a Godsend! :-)

Hi,
I really want to use your image map ideas for the header, but it seems editing the header in such a way is a bit more complicated. Or so it seems to me :)

How would I use an image map in the header?

I have the sidebar menu setup and working properly. I like the look of having the pages listed in 2 columns, like how yours is currently displaying. How did you make that happen? and what css file should I make changes to? -Thanks!

Thanks for this one. I'm not sure what I learned but I'm sure I learned something. I use sidebar widgets for the sidebar so I didn't need the code for the menu.
And aesthetically I'm happy with the one sidebar so I didn't need to use the double sidebar option.
Image maps, I'm afraid I still don't know what they are or how one or more would benefit me. Something to read up on there. Although generally I'm trying to avoid using any more images on my side as I want to keep it fit and slim and moving fast.
Generally, I suppose, I felt that this tutorial moved on a long way, esoterically, from the first three. Suddenly it wasn't for beginners any more and seemed to be speaking to people who already knew a whole lot more than me.
Not that it wasn't useful, only that it wasn't perhaps as useful as the first three seemed to be.
Still, tomorrow I'll move on to tutorial five. Will I understand it?

[...] It appears that there are TWO three-column remixes of k2 - the other one, “3k2″, has working widget support, although it has flanking sidebars, which I dislike. Checking it out now…. here is a comparison with the other, Bharath’s 3-column k2, which is slightly slicker and more professional, and I’ve been checking out, but lacks the working widgets. Of course, all this is just CSS - someone wrote up notes on adding a second sidebar to the latest k2 manually, with code examples. Of course, I’d prefer a centrally maintained and undated solution…. [...]

[...] He emailed me a photoshop mockup of exactly how he wanted his beer blog to look. I cut it up a little on my computer, separating the different graphical elements in order to plug them into the theme. I made the title graphic clickable by using an image map technique I learned from Paul Stamatiou’s tutorial. All in all, I think the end result is very nice. The purpose for his blog compliments K2’s abilities very well and I think he will have a lot of fun writing about his passion on his brand new blog. [...]

This tutorial rocks. I used the part about the image map for the first time on a site I recently coded for Chris Gillis on http://bieredetable.com/.

He's a graphic designer and made all the graphics, I did all the code to plug in the design to k2. Using an image map for the header title image made things much easier.

[...] Part 4 talks about K2 sidebars, 3-column layouts and image maps, while Part 5 concerns load time optimization. Although Part 4 is very much crafted for K2 themes alone, but you could actually use the advice given in Part 5 for other blog themes as well. In fact, I’ve used a couple of his optimization tips on some of my blogs as well, e.g. CSS compression through CSS Tweak and turning off advanced functions that require extensive Javascript.
