College Students: $5k Web Design Scholarship

August 7, 2007 · 18 comments

Daniel Kovach, the guy responsible for The Daniel Kovach Scholarship Foundation from which I received a $1k blogging scholarship last year, is running a web design scholarship contest. If you’re a college student and can design a WordPress template by August 13th 18th (extended), you could have $5,000 taken off your tuition.

The winner will be chosen by a team of judges ranging from myself to Darren Rowse, Darius Monsef and more. The winning design will be used on a new scholarship site Daniel is creating. Good luck!

PaulStamatiou.com runs on the Thesis Theme for WordPress

How smart is your Theme? How good is your support? Check out ThesisTheme for WordPress.

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like PaulStamatiou.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

Awesome! This is a great opportunity to get off of some of the stresses next year. I’m heading off to a University later this month, and I would love to participate. I hope I can have my template design submitted by then!

Everyone: the competition is very low right now. I would HIGHLY suggest entering if you can. Thanks for the mention Paul!

This looks fun but 10 days isn’t exactly much time.

The site says August 18 but the post says August 13 so I’m a bit confused. Don’t want to start and then find that the deadlines passed..

Also the brief is a little unclear, when they say wordpress template design is that just a design, or a coded CSS layout of a few page-types, or a full WP integration ready to install?

Anand – I think it has been extended. As for the requirements, I will agree it is a bit vague but I think he wants a ready to install theme. You can always contact Daniel.

The entry deadline has officially been moved to the 18th

Same Problem as Ashe, I’m only a Legal Resident, not a citizen. Its a shame, I doubt many people will enter.

This is so awesome!! I love that there are web design/blog scholarships offered these days..I had never heard of this before seeing your post. In 95, the year I graduated university, still the infant years of the internet, a scholarship like this was unheard of.

I guess I saw this a little too late :[...

I am a US citizen... Not to mention a great developer in my 2nd year of school and REALLY needed the scholarship!

Like 'kat' said... there are none... even with a 4.0 GPA. There just aren't any for Web Development or Internet Technologies.

Congrats to whomever won!!! I feel your excitement! ;]
