Sumo Omni: I Dub Thee Blogger’s Chair
I have found it - the ultimate computing chair/pillow contraption. It’s called the Sumo Omni and it most closely resembles a big-arse pillow and glorified bean bag. I first heard about it from Derek Punsalan a year ago and I’ve had my eye on it ever since. Unlike most reviews of Sumo products you’ll see online, I actually bought the $129 Sumo Omni myself.
In the 24 hours I have owned the Omni, it has already changed my computing style. Rather than being bent over on a chair while working on my desk, I have experimented with several computer-friendly positions.
As with any bean bag product, the Omni conforms to your needs and can be shaped however you want. Unlike other cheaper bags, the Omni is constructed of sturdy nylon, which isn’t quite as soft as anything like cotton but it is rip proof and will last. It also has the added benefit of sliding quite nicely on wood floors - always a plus.
The Omni can also function as a makeshift bed for unexpected visitors, although they might be a bit sore in the morning. I accidentally dozed off while writing this yesterday and was quite pleased with its large size. The only real problem with the Omni, which is shared with most bean bag products, is that its hard to get up from one, especially after you’ve sunk in and made your own space. Other than that, I love this thing.
If you have an extra football field or two of space in your dwelling, definitely take a look at the Omni. Do you have space for one at your place?

I bet your neighbors below you love hearing you dive, and slide across the floor :D
That thing looks seriously comfortable! I might just have to get one.
You must absolutely love wooden floors… I think this is the 2nd or 3rd Flickr video of yours I’ve watched with you sliding all over the place lol
I think it looks cool and all but the only problem I have with it is it’s shape.
Being in the pillow-like shape that it is, doesn’t allow you to use it like a chair wherever you’d like. It seems to me that it needs to be propped up against a wall or something to get the chair-like shape. A normal bean bag allows you to sit however you like, without having to rely on a wall or something.
nice omni! A friend of mine works for Lovesac. Yes, I said Lovesac. And NO, it’s not a naughty website. LOL. It’s an alternative furniture company that makes high end bean bag chairs and sectional couches. they have tons of great products and I am trying to convince him to get me one for free! Hopefully he will listen because they are so very comfy!
Entertaining your inner child I see. I wish I have some 100s lying around to get me one. Be careful, don’t hit the wall!
Hey
Your new apartment looks neat! How much is the rent?
PS
At first, this is really amazing… after a few days, it will destroy your back.
This looks awesome! I’m pretty sure it’s a great solution to those back pains I’ve been experiencing lately. ;)
I’m definitely buying one of these when I get back from the holidays.
Hmm.. I wish I had the room, and the cash! But is this very different from the standard bean bag? Does the square shape help? Looks like an awesome movie watching chair.
(btw, congratulations on spelling “arse” correctly. :) )
This does look comfy. There’s a LoveSac store at the nearby mall and everyone is always lounging comfortably in there…I might have to give them a try.
I am interested to know what positions you use with it that you say has changed the way you computer. It seems like it might hurt your neck to look down on your lap all the time while in that bag.
@Chris - usually I’m laid out on top of the Omni and have the Air on the floor. I don’t have to do any looking down or anything as the Omni supports my head and arms
One question: Are you concerned it’s going to lose the springiness or whatever you want to call it over time? It seems very cool but I’m concerned that in six months it’s going to be less and less substantial, if you know what I mean.
I never worry about that stuff. It’s awesome now and that’s all that matters to me. :-)
Oh, Paul, I dub thee blogger who just loves to slide. LOL
@Dean - for future reference you don’t have to make your name the same as your OpenID URL
I have to get one.
It’s great that you have an “open” wooden floor. My landlord wants me to cover 75% of my wooden floor with a rug/carpet
I neeeeddd this!
@Paul, yeah I’d forgotten to put my name in when I typed my earlier comment. ;)
very very nice room! I wish i had it! haha! Nice article, awesome read! :)
