Virb.com Goes Public
Remember that hip new social network I gave out invites for a few weeks ago? Well, it launched and went public today. Virb is geared more towards the arts-oriented crowd (music, etc), or so it seems. Similar to MySpace, bands seem to be taking over Virb, as exemplified by this Fall Out Boy page. At any rate, it’s nice to see MySpace will have some (better looking) competition. Oh and music on profile pages doesn’t and can’t autoplay - take that MySpace!

As for the bands taking over…Virb actually just imported their database of bands from Purevolume…so any band that is one Purevolume will be on Virb.
Ah, I figured they had to get the band to make a page as well. So you’re saying that the bands don’t actually check/use/know about their page?
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Supposedly if they update any info on their PV page it gets updated on their Virb page as well.
Not all the bands from PV were imported. I doubt there will be any interaction / updating between Virb and Purevolume as the two sites are significantly different.
Music is fairly high quality, extremely nicely designed.
It’s a great looking site. Hopefully this one takes off. Favorite feature was that I could import my Flickr photos.
It even has a “Remove Customisation” button. Beautiful! That’s been on the Myspace most wanted forever.

Virb is excellent. I hope MySpace falls off the internet.
Virb excels at doing exactly the same thing that I am trying to do with my own site, but it does it all effortlessly and better than I have been able to. Although I give myself a break because I’m a complete beginner.
Band profiles that were imported were also locked until the bands decide to make profiles. All they have up until then is the band’s name and photo. I’m thinking it’s a good idea to avoid fake band profiles and things like that.
is it really public, there is a signups left ticker?
I haven’t heard a word about Virb (either on the web, or via word of mouth) for quite some time. Dead? Dying?
Maybe the big “2.0″ release didn’t release in time. Feels like it’s loosing/lost the initial spike of momentum/popularity it had. Maybe I’m wrong.
