Briefly: iTunes 7.1, Adobe CS3

Mar 05, 2007 in , ,

Lots of great news in the Apple software realm today. Apple released iTunes 7.1 which includes the notable feature addition of full-screen Cover Flow and support for Apple TV. The iTunes update comes bundled with QuickTime 7.1.5 and also includes a few security fixes and Vista enhancements for Windows users. Hopefully this iTunes update means that Apple TV is around the corner. Apple took longer than expected with Apple TV production and didn’t make the February shipping date. TUAW has a post about iTunes 7.1 including the new sorting options.

CoverFlow
Full-screen Cover Flow in all its glory… do you find it useful or is it just “neat”?

Meanwhile, Adobe confirmed March 27th, 2007 as the day they will be announcing Creative Suite 3, the uber bundle of creativity software such as Photoshop. CS3 is highly sought after for Mac users as it is a universal binary and runs great on Intel Macs. Unfortunately, CS3 won’t be shipping on March 27th and you’ll have to wait until “Spring 2007″.. which hopefully means mid-April to coincide with the rumors about Apple’s April release of OS X Leopard.

When CS3 finally begins shipping, will you be purchasing it or waiting for other means of securing your copy? I think I might purchase the educational version of Photoshop CS3, although I find myself using InDesign a bunch as well.

  1. love Anberlin!! they are gonna be on craig ferguson later tonight!

I might buy CS3 also……the phone activation thing was such a pain in CS2!

  2. It’s too bad that I already dumped my iTunes (that was for some reason decided to delete my playlists) for songbird. Sweet Jesus, iPod support and everything.

  3. I’ll be buying the educational version of CS3. :( Spending money sucks.

  4. I predict 10.4.9 will be out today (Tuesday). I’ve notice the trend as of late is to release some software updates, than update the OS the following day.

I also have a gut feeling the AppleTV will start shipping tomorrow.

  5. I await to see if your predictions are correct Ron. =)

  6. I’ve been waiting for the CS3 suite for a while. My calendar has been marked.

  7. Hmm… not sure about jumping on CS3 just yet, but the educational discount sure is nice (I work in higher ed).

As far as iTunes, I’m not a big enough user to feel an impact of it… the only thing I really use iTunes for is to transfer music to my Nano.

  8. Oh damn, full screen Cover Flow rules. I didn’t even bother poking around after I installed the update. Thanks for the heads up on this stuff. Heading over to TUAW in a sec to see what they have to say.

The whole Adobe announcing a date to announce a release date is hilarious. I’ve seen so many people ranting about the whole thing - but come on, it’s so ridiculous you can’t help but laugh.
