Perian, Bringing VLC-Like Compatiblity to QuickTime
Perian is a project that allows your QuickTime (Mac only) player to play just about every video format, with the exception of Windows Media. Simply drag the Perian component to your QuickTime library directory and enjoy such benefits as DivX, 3ivX and XviD video compatibility. Before Perian came along, you would have to individually install each of these plugins.

Thanks for the link! The previous solution (the second link) breaks my Final Cut. Perian leaves FCP alone. Great! I can finally watch my xvids on FrontRow.
Awesome! Thank you.
Any idea why I always get the the warning “The disk image failed to mount”?
That’s a weird one Allan. I’d say try to download it again, if you haven’t already done that.
Done that already from different download locations already but yield same results :(
This sounds very promising!
Just to clarify, this means divx encoded files will play in FrontRow? If so, I’m excited. I havent bothered to install remote support for VLC, because the function I want the most (like most people, it seems) is Fast Forward/Rewind.
Newb quesion (long time Mac user, new iMac user) - is there any way to get FrontRow to recognize a folder other than the Movies folder in my user? I have a seperate partition for video content, and would love to be able to access my movies from there. Possible?
Just to clarify, I know Flip4Mac was previously available to support divx through quicktime…but I hated installing it with bundled software…and I generally can’t stand anything that is remotely related to Window’s Media Player, *shudder*
I, too, had some problems downloading the disk image. I realized I was downloading it on a Mac which wouldn’t support it anyway since it was running 10.3.9 and not 10.4. I switched to my other Mac which is running 10.4 and it downloaded and mounted the image perfectly.
VLC version 0.8.6D Janus (intel) works fine with Apple Remote under OSX 10.5.2 once the program is active,
not quite front row, but close enough for me…
