Yahoo! Tip of the Day
After having spent a decent amount of time at Yahoo! so far, I’ve learned to avoid odd stares and confrontation by following this simple rule of thumb: Always look around before loading up Google in your browser. There are some queries in Google that I know provide certain results. Like if I search for something, I know what I’m looking for is going to be the third link. Not that Yahoos don’t like Google or anything.. I mean a good deal of my co-workers use gmail.
Wow! I had no idea that some Yahoo! employees use GMail. It’s pretty awesome that Yahoo! doesn’t mind, especially when we live in a corporate world where destroying the competitor is everything.
Yea, i bet opening Google anything would feel quite ackward.
It’s unfortunate that Yahoo doesn’t index important sites that would improve your workplace performance.

Maybe I hurt productivity?
What is going on with Yahoo search? I can never seem to find exactly what I want with that search engine. I try so hard to leave Google behind but having to search a little harder for results with Yahoo is not convincing enough.
Hm, I use Google search all the time and no one seems to mind. I use Gmail as well and while I rarely check personal email at work, if I did, again no one would mind. I mean honestly, who cares?
Basically, I’m just saying, I’ve never got weird stares b/c of using Google products. Sure, we’ve made jokes at first when I started, but they’re just that, jokes. Nothing serious.
Maybe it’s just my group.

When I started at Yahoo! about a year and a half ago, I forced myself to use as many Yahoo! products as I could. Some changes were easy, switching from Hotmail to Yahoo! Mail was easy (especially since I work on Yahoo! Mail Beta). Using Yahoo! Messenger was easy as well. Having a free year of Yahoo! Music Unlimited and Flickr Pro was great.
But sometimes the dogfood doesn’t always taste as good as what you were using. In those cases, I’ve always found it best to tell those teams why I like their competitor’s products better. Best case, they take the feedback and do something about it. Worst case, they ignore you and you continue using their competitor’s product.
Yes, wear your Google shirt. :-)
Paul, I saw a video in which Filo would pride himself on wearing only shirts given to him by competitors.
I think people wouldn’t like me wearing an Intel t-shirt in our offices in the states :) But that’s my wild guess only!
Paul - I’m loving the new site design and I appreciate the flock-ish look as well (whether this was intended or not). It’s more pleasant than the last version - in my humble non-designing opinion.
Secondly - speaking of flock, its got me using yahoo alot more with the live search feature which I think is great. Yahoo seems to be doing some really innovative stuff over there and its good they’ve got you.
