Apple to Remedy Discoloring MacBooks

Jun 30, 2006 in ,

MacNN reports that Apple actually is fixing the rampant discoloration issues present on white MacBook laptops. My laptop suffers from this issue, even after I had put an invisible shield on the palm rest. The discoloring stems from a manufacturing defect in the plastic. Apple will replace the top case, presumably free of charge. Hopefully, I will just be able to take it into an Apple store and have the plastic replaced while I wait. Derek has created a nice timeline of his troubling MacBook issues.

  1. How about if i don’t have a Apple store near bye?

  2. Most likely, you can ship it to them.

  3. Man, I’m with you… I’m crossing my fingers hoping that the local Apple Store will have the parts necessary to do an instore swap as sending the machine away is not a viable option at the moment.

  4. I’m starting to think that Apple doesn’t test their macbooks enough. I’m always hearing about funky bugs in their hardware like this one (I use the term bug loosely). I can’t imagine what it would be like if they had the userbase that all the PC manufacturers had.

  5. Here you guys go: Genius Bar reps were advised to swap / repair under warranty two weeks ago! That came straight from the AppleCare reps that I spoke with today.

  6. This is pathetic. If it was a Dell laptop with these malfunctions people would be making riots. Since it’s apple “Oh, it’s alright, I just have to take it to the closest Apple Store and wait”.

  7. I agree with Christian, Apple does not test there products long enough, how could they mis the discoloration on the Macbook’s.

  8. My simpathy with those who don’t have Apple stores near by. I’m in the same situation

  9. Is it not just recently with their laptops? I thought that the iMacs and Mac Mini ’settling in periods’ went smoothly.

  1. Our valley trip…

In the last couple of days you may have noticed a lack of posts. Cameron and I took a trip to Silicon Valley to meet up with some random people, clients, and a couple 9rulers……

  2. [...] My question though is if this study was completed prior to the Dell battery issue and the Apple MacBook discoloration problems? I do know of a few people that have had their share of problem with Apple though. [...]

  3. [...] Marware Protection Pack I have heard some terrible things about the discoloring of the Macbooks due to sweaty wrists (Macs get hot), in order to prevent this I recommend picking up a protection pack from Marware. I finally have mine to fit with out the air bubbles, and when I am away I cover the key board and do not worry about anything falling into the precious keys. For just twenty bucks and a trip to your local Apple store you can keep your Mac fresh and clean with the Marware protection pack, it has really helped me for when I spend those long nights on papers.
