RoundCube Webmail Hits Beta

Feb 25, 2006 in , , ,

Many of you have taken my RoundCube installation guide to heart despite some of the RoundCube alpha’s problems and shortcomings. RoundCube is a revolutionary webmail client, better than anything like Squirrel Mail, featuring a very lightweight codebase and an AJAX-ified interface. However, Thomas Bruederli of RoundCube has recently announced the release of RoundCube v0.1-beta. I have yet to update my RoundCube install but if I come up with any problems or changes in the installation procedure, you can count on me posting another guide.

  1. Little shout out to everyone at Dreamhost: If you want roundcube mail, as I desperately do, send in a suggestion to the dreamhost team asking for it as an alternative option to Squirrel Mail.

The more people who ask for it, the better chance we just might get it officially supported!

  2. I’ve yet to get around installing roundcube… it does look intensely sweet. Trying the demo from their site, I realize it lets you create folders (Gmail can’t!). There doesn’t seem to be any spam control, but I can setup an anti-spam service at the SMTP level, so that’ll take care of it. I can’t wait to install this, forward all my email there and change my email routine from now onwards. Thanks Paul! :)

  3. i dropped a request with dreamhost. let’s see if they offer roundcube as an email interface option. squirrel mail is arcane. i’m going to hold out a little longer before installing this myself.

  4. Honestly, if there is one thing I have learned in this life it’s enough complaining and someone will do it for you.

  5. First problem with the installation guide is that you can no longer get RC from SourceForge CVS…

  6. Nice, sexy, hot webmail UI… but there are something that borthering me:

1./ RC can’t send a big attachment file (>2mb) as well as open it. (Gmail, and my default host webmail can send file

  7. roundcube has the sleekest layout of any webmail client I’ve ever installed/used.. and that’s quite a bit. Definitely has a way to go in terms of functionality and features, but I still use their beta over squirrelmail.

  8. I just installed roundcube from the latest svn source and it seems fantastic.

Alixky, there is a setting in the .htaccess file for the roundcube directory limiting uploads to 2mb – try changing that to a higher value.

    (php_value upload_max_filesize 2M)

  9. well roundcube has let me down. For some reason it doesnt receive mail from yahoo but it sends. Maybe I went wrong somewhere but strange it works with other mail providers. Any thin I should know………????
