Google RSS Reader
Google has just released an rss reader. It is available at Google.com/reader. I have just started playing around with it and it seems very promising. I love the layout. It allows for you to click on one of your multiple feeds and see the full article from every feed entry in the central part of the page. Like Gmail it seems to be heavily based on newer web technologies such as AJAX, allowing for feeds to be loaded without having to reload the page entirely. Of course, like Gmail you are also able to star your favorite entries. However, right now it is probably being knocked by some impressive traffic so it’s a bit slow.

Thats really interesting. And I had no idea that Google used AJAX.
I look forward to the day when Google develops their own operating system. That would be cool.
I really wasn’t impressed with it. The layout is clumsy and slow, and the idea of moving linearly through a very short list of posts is outdated. I need instant access, or at log(n) access to any data source, not scrolling through some massive list. I read 300 feeds.
Paul,
Really liked your introductory article on RSS. I am a power user of RSS and I was just looking around for some site that I can refer to my “yet to be rss-enlightened” friends. Thanks.
However, would you mind writing in more detail about which Online Reader you are using currently, and can you post a comparison of the various readers out there (if you have tried various readers), and explain why you are using what you are using. Personally I have tried 3 or 4 and found Google Reader to be the best of them (thanks to shortcut keys and the inviting reading pane/layout).
Thanks,
Proto.
